Texas Holdem Rules

When it comes to Texas Holdem rules, you have to understand three important terminologies and their implications:

  • The blinds and their significance
  • The different types of betting actions
  • The different types of pot splits

The Blinds and Their Significance

The pot should have some money to pull in other players to bet. If there were no rules in place to have someone invest money in to the pot, none of the players is going to bet and the pot is going to be empty until one of players gets the best starting hand combination. Thus, several hands that yield no profit to the house might pass on. A compulsory betting system known as the blind betting are implemented to avoid such delays to kick start money coming in.

The small blind (The player left next to the dealer) always bets half the minimum betting amount. The big blind (The player left next to the small blind) always bets the minimum betting unit at the table.

The option of playing the blinds rotates to consecutive players after each hand.

The Different Types of Betting Actions per Betting Cycle

Even if the players are willing to bet more in each betting round like pre-flop, flop, turn, or river, there are not more than 3 cycles of betting consisting of call, raise or re-raise. There is no re-re-raise in any round. Once the call raise and re-raise are complete, the game graduates to next round automatically.

The Different Types of Pot Splits

In Texas Hi variant, the player with the best high-ranking 5-card hand scoops the pot. In Texas Hi-Low variant, the pot is split between the best high and best low hand according to pot splitting rules. If one player has both the high and low, the player takes the entire pot.
